The most frequent questions we get at our help desk

  • Posted by Colin Pearce
  • On June 9, 2022
As part of our service, we run a “help desk” for clients. That means when someone is at work and there is an IT issue of any kind, they call or email us. We work with them until it’s resolved. It’s a big part of what we do. We do a lot of infrastructure management, […]

Employee monitoring: What digital information are you tracking?

  • Posted by Colin Pearce
  • On May 18, 2022
In Ontario, we are hearing more about “employee monitoring.” This is the practice of digitally monitoring, or surveilling employees. Laws now require companies with 25 or more employees to have a written policy about it. Regardless of your company’s size, you may have some questions about this. What is employee monitoring? Are my IT systems […]

  • Above is a simple report on the information our IT systems collect on a regular basis. We regularly collect this data for purposes of security and systems health. Our IT systems track the above data from Cloud Office virtual desktops, mobile phones, and workplace computers and laptops. Our IT systems do not perform any direct employee monitoring such as screen recordings or keylogging (keeping a record of what is being typed). If your company has 25 or more employees, it's time to write up and share a policy about this. And if you have fewer than 25 employees, it's still a good idea to ask your IT company about what type of information your IT systems are tracking.

5 ways your IT company can help you fight cyber attacks

  • Posted by Colin Pearce
  • On April 6, 2022
Cyber security and knowing how to fight cyber attacks is increasingly important to many companies. Hackers are always improving their techniques. They don’t stop to pick and choose targets. Attacks are on the rise and worryingly, even small companies are at risk. There is no way to “stay off the radar.” Many attacks are not […]

What does our name “Inderly” mean?

  • Posted by Colin Pearce
  • On April 6, 2022
As a small IT company we could be using a more descriptive name involving computers or technology. In fact I long thought I would name my first business “Pearce Computer Solutions” or “PCS” for short. My dad has run a courier company for a long time under the name — you guessed it — “Pearce […]

The most overlooked thing in IT

  • Posted by Colin Pearce
  • On June 2, 2021
Ransomware is increasingly common. Yet, the most overlooked thing in IT is just the thing that can save you from a ransomware attack. Working data backups that you can access quickly. Can a ransomware attack happen to us? Ransomware is a cyber attack that freezes company data. Hackers demand you pay to get your data […]

Why you don’t want to be the “special” client

  • Posted by Colin Pearce
  • On February 2, 2021
We keep things simple by providing everything most clients need in one comprehensive IT monthly package. A lot of IT companies don’t do a standard, across-the-board service, opting instead for highly customized plans. They end up with many outlier clients because one business owner might want two-factor authentication, but four other clients don’t. Some want […]

5 things dog walking and IT services have in common

  • Posted by Colin Pearce
  • On January 12, 2021
All small service businesses have a lot in common. My wife and I ran a popular local dog-walking company for three and a half years, servicing hundreds of people and doggos. There is a surprising amount of cross-over between dog walking and IT services. Here’s what we learned. 1. Standardization benefits everyone. Small businesses must […]

Case studies are boring, so here’s a fairy tale

Once upon a time, there was a tech savvy young lady dressed all in red with a grandmother who ran her business from deep inside the concrete forest. One lovely morning, Grandma rang up the Little Red Riding Hood help desk. “You must come help me set up my new desktop!” she worried. Little Red […]

An interview with Inderly’s founder, Colin

Who are you? I am a not-quite-digital native who tries hard to act like one. In my spare time I enjoying DJing and music production, craft beers on docks. I’m a massive space technology enthusiast. I know more about rockets than any one man who doesn’t actually work in rocketry should. I’m also the founder […]

Important questions to ask about your data backups

  • Posted by Colin Pearce
  • On October 20, 2020
I know, data security can seem SUPER boring. And your provider says they have it covered. An IT company can be great at security, but there are always failures along the way. Therefore, I consider working data backups to be the single most important thing we offer as IT providers. You can train and plan […]
